Shopping Sweatshop

This hits me in the feels because I'm a sucker for cheap clothing. I've always felt conflicted about sweatshop factory-produced clothing, and sometimes feel like there's hardly anything I can do to actively tackle the issue.

Can I not buy all these nice affordable clothes because the industry dictates that such low pay to factory workers is totally acceptable? Can't they just adjust their profit margins and increase wage costs, instead of me having to totally boycott them?? /I know. I'm a terrible person. Hu.

I would be willing to pay some more if it means increasing the workers' salaries, but that's hardly the consumer's call, is it? Fair trade clothing brands are few and far in between... and frankly, just not as fast as fast fashion nowadays.

I know it doesn't help to just resign the responsibility and point all the blame to the sellers here. I'd love to know more about how consumers can help turn this issue around.

Maybe I could look into this for a research project, or perhaps even my future thesis for my upcoming master's program. Might be a good prospect. Exciting times ahead.

P.S. Ugh, I love Berlin.
